Department of Studies

The Department of Studies is the coordinator of the A.U.Th. scholarships programme for foreign students. Its main responsibilities include:

The coordination of the scholarships programme for foreign students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies (MA and Ph.D.), and for research. A total of twenty-seven scholarships, announced in the press, are awarded to A.U.Th. students who meet the criteria set out in the Scholarships Regulations.

  • The coordination of the scholarships programme for students attending the Summer Intensive Programme in Modern Greek Language and Culture organized by the School of Modern Greek Language with the purpose of disseminating Greek Culture. The university awards a total of 130 scholarships, 70 of which are given to foreign students and 53 in the framework of agreements with universities abroad and support to Greek communities abroad. These scholarships are awarded by the Department of Studies, while the programme is implemented by the School of Modern Greek Language. The Department of Studies also helps students who attend the summer courses to find accommodation in the Student Residence Halls or Youth Hostels in Thessaloniki, since it is difficult for students to participate in the programme unless they have secured their accommodation. In exchange, eighteen students from Aristotle University are selected by the Department of Studies to attend summer language and culture courses at the universities of Kliment Ohridski in Sofia, Paul Valery in Montpelier, Marc Bloch in Strasburg, Leipzig, Al. I. Cuza in Iasi, and the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade.

Other responsibilities of the Department of Studies include the following:

  • Collecting, organizing, and disseminating information pertaining to:

    • laws, decisions, and circulars concerning studies;

    • statistics from A.U.Th. Schools and Departments;

    • statistics concerning transfers of students from other universities (Greek and foreign) and placement exams for University graduates who wish to continue their studies in another discipline;

    • scholarships, grants, funds, competitions, international meetings, seminars, lectures, summer schools and language courses;

    • job announcements for students;

    • Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, its Schools, services and programmes of study for Greek and foreign students.

  • Finding accommodation for first-year students, collecting offers from flat- and room-owners which it makes available to those interested, together with a list of the real-estate agents in Thessaloniki.

  • Guiding first-year students through the registration process, organizing their reception by the Schools and providing them with a folder with useful information so that they are smoothly integrated in the university community and the city.

  • Informing university students and the public about issues pertaining to studies in higher education institutions in Greece and abroad.

  • Collecting and circulating printed material concerning A.U.Th. (brochures, maps, journals, information on Schools and services), the city of Thessaloniki and Greek culture.

  • Organizing study visits for highschool students and informing them about their studies at A.U.Th. in the framework of School Career Guidance.

  • Coordinating the implementation of the A.U.Th. programme for rent subsidies for private accommodation.
